This article is called “Why NBA Cares is more than a PR slogan.” This article discusses how NBA commissioner David Stern desires to have the NBA and its players serve communities and not just public relations reasons.

Bob Taylor’s Response to “United Breaks Guitars”- PR Connection

Bob Taylor, creator of the premiere acoustic guitar company Taylor Guitars, pledges his support to Dave Carroll after United Airlines broke his guitar and refused to pay for it. Of course Carroll went on to create several videos about this incident and has put a bad light on United. I thought this very interesting that Bob Taylor, a high executive in the music industry, would publicly pledge his support to Carroll. I have to admit, as a musician myself, I also pledge my support to Carroll.

Dirty Dominos Video- PR Connection

This is the video of the Dominos employees who were caught contaminating company food. When we discussed this in class I was amazed to learn that Dominos really did not do anything immediately to deal with this video after it was released. I think if they would have followed a list on crisis like Professor Nixon’s, they would have handled the situation much differently.

Gillette- PR connection

I do not know if any if you are like me, but when I see Gillette’s new advertisements about a new razor coming out June 6th I desire to know more about product. I think these ads present a great marketing tactic and a great sense of smart public relations. It turns out that the new razor is called the “Fusion ProGlide.” Click on the hyperlink to more about these ads and the product itself.

The Evolution of the Music Industry- PR Connection

After being involved in a traveling full-time band for a few years I started to learn a great deal about the music industry. I once wrote a term paper about this very topic and I talked about the ways the music industry has changed. I feel like this is very applicable to our class about public relations because it speaks about how many bands and artists are promoting themselves today. The essay focuses on the fact that it is technology that has changed the industry. Please read my paper called “Music’s New Era of Choice” and let me know what you think.

PR Connection- Dwight Howard, Basketball Star or Movie Star?

Orlando Magic basketball superstar apparently keeps just as busy when he is off the court. In an article by Brian Schmitz of the Orlando Sentinel it is revealed that the young NBA center plans to take his image to the level of movie star as well as basketball sensation. Personally, I think this is a great move for Dwight Howard. Staring in movies or tv shows will expand his reputation and image to those who might not ever watch a game of basketball. I am also remind of when previous NBA stars like Micheal Jordan, Shaquille O’Neal, “Penny” Hardaway, and others who have also starred in movies themselves.

Providence, Christian Alternative Rock Band- PR Connection

This is a music video from the Christian alternative-rock band Providence. I have actually been playing guitar in this group for the past few years (you can see me in the video). In the past,  we have used many sites like youtube, myspace, and facebook to promote our music. These sites have offered tremendous opportunities for our band and bands just like ours to connect with current fans and expand the group’s following.

New iPhone? -PR Connection

I found some very interesting sites that claims that an Apple employee left a prototype for an updated version of the iPhone at a bar. While reading this I wondered if it is possible that this Apple employee left the new phone “accidentally” on purpose for the publicly. Regardless if this was intention or not it will be interesting how Apple handles this situation.
